Bi-Objection
Hey… I’m not sure if I could qualify this as a submission, but more as just me sharing with you guys some bi-ignorance. Funny thing though, is it’s from my Girlfriend.
I, a high school girl, am in my first non-heterosexual relationship and to say the least, it’s complicated my life a little. As a christian I’m struggling with religious values. As a virgin I’m struggling with limitations. As a conservative’s daughter I can’t tell my family, and therefore am closeted from most of my friends. (Most, not all. About ten of my friends know.) As newly non-heterosexual I’m not sure what I am.
I’m dating a girl, showing homosexuality, but I have dated and enjoyed dating males. This leads me to question whether I am bisexual, pansexual or asexual. To shorten things down for my friends who know, I usually just tell them I’m bisexual. My girlfriend however, receives regular rants and updates on my dilemma.
You wouldn’t expect me to have any problems about this with a Lesbian, un-closeted and proud, would you? She actively supports LGBT+ but I found a different side of that a little while ago.
I was chilling out with her and her gay best friend, just chilling when sexual orientation came up. When her gay best friend called be a lesbian, I politely corrected him and he made a face and quickly told me he didn’t like bisexuals. She quickly agreed with him and explained that it was because a bisexual had hurt them both. Though I’m not sure of my sexuality, this hurt me.
I don’t care that she was hurt by one because they left her for a man. I don’t think all bisexuals have a tendency to do such things and I feel like it should be only directly linked to her ex-girlfriend. Thus I’m frustrated with this ignorance and objection and though I haven’t furthered the discussion and for five months now we’ve had no problem, I wonder if she secretly resents me for it.
A Queer Fairy Tale: Part Two
A Queer Fairy Tale: Part One
Here’s my submission for the Queer Stories for Kids bonanza we have going on now. (Or hopefully will soon. Come on, folks! I know you’ve got in in you!) I hope you all enjoy it and its twists and turns. And if you like it and know some kids who enjoy a good fairy tale, please by all means read it to them! Anyway, I’ve decided to break this into two post so that it’s not too intimidating. Part two will be up soon. Here is a little tale that I call:
On the Origin of Glitter Glue
Call for Stories! Kids and Queers!
One of the problems with the lack of queer visibility in the world is that it’s really hard to find depictions of ourselves in movies and books and so on, but even worse is that kids have no queer characters to grow up with at all! This is one of the place homophobia can spring up from early on. After all, why should someone who’s gay be treated like a normal person if you’ve never seen anyone gay in a Disney movie, on Spongebob, or in your favorite fairy tales. Clearly it’s something weird unnatural, or else you would have heard of it before!
Well, I don’t work for Nickelodeon and Disney isn’t returning my calls, but I do run a blog! And stories can be written! What do you folks say? Who wants to have a week devoted to queers and kids? It can be queer parents, queer children, queer versions of fairy tales, whatever!
Personally though, what I’m really hoping for is to put together a collection of short stories that geared toward children and contain LGBT+ characters as the protagonists, or at least prominently. There are tons of kids out there who need to know that queer people exist, who should get to see queer characters. But that can’t happen unless the stories with those characters are written. I’ll write and put up my story in the next few days. Is anyone else willing to take up the challenge?

There is a pigeon who can attest to the life-saving skills of this non-binary queer person! My friend’s cat prowled through the catflap, but at first it looked like she had created for herself a new shield…made of feathers. She took the pigeon into the hall and started to chew at its feathers when we realised it was moving. So I picked it up and placed it on a roof far away… all while simultaneously being queer!
Oh, and that happened twice in about twenty minutes, with two different pigeons. But yeah.

Beads of sweat were starting to form on Wallace’s forehead.
It was ridiculous. Wallace was a man who prided himself on his ability to keep cool. He’d gotten his first job after seeing a man lose both his thumbs in an “accident” with a with a cigar cutter. Wallace…
